Wolf's Lair - a place where history has written its mark

Wolf The Wolf's Lair in Gierłoż is one of the most famous World War II sites. It is right here, in the heart of the Masurian forests, was the headquarters of Adolf Hitler's headquarters - a perfectly camouflaged and guarded „forest city” in which decisions affecting the fate of Europe were made.

Construction of began in 1940 under the pretext of establishing chemical plants. On an area of 250 hectares, some 200 structures were erected - from massive shelters made of reinforced concrete, to barracks, guardhouses, technical and communications facilities. The quarters was a self-sufficient center, equipped with, among other things, an airport, a train station railroad, sewerage, communications, and even a cinema and teahouse.

It was here On July 20, 1944, there was a failed attempt on Hitler's life, carried out by Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg. A few months later, in view of the approaching Red Army, the quarters were abandoned and some of the facilities were blown up.
Today Wolf's Lair is a unique memorial site that allows you to get to know firsthand the history of World War II. It is a space where monumental ruins remind you of the dramatic events of the past century and encourage you to reflect reflection.
